Phytozome is a comparative platform and web portal developed to organize the rapidly growing body of sequenced plant genomes and associated genomic resources. It aggregates genome and gene family data, letting researchers view the evolutionary history of every plant gene at the level of sequence, gene structure, gene family and genome organization, and provides access to the sequences and functional annotations of a growing number of complete plant genomes.

At the time of writing it hosted 25 complete plant genomes, including all sequenced land plants and selected algae from the Joint Genome Institute and elsewhere. By exposing these data and comparative genomics tools through a single database and portal, Phytozome helps the broader plant science community link well-studied model systems to other plants of economic and ecological importance.

Abstract

As sequenced plant genomes proliferate via next-generation sequencing, Phytozome provides a comparative hub for plant genome and gene family data. It shows each gene's evolutionary history at the level of sequence, gene structure, gene family and genome organization, while giving access to annotations for 25 complete plant genomes spanning land plants and selected algae. Via a web portal, it offers the plant science community comparative genomics tools that link model systems to economically and ecologically important plants.
