OneLake catalog is described as a centralized place in Microsoft Fabric to find, explore, and use Fabric items and to govern data you own. Admins and users open it from the Fabric navigation pane. The same catalog is embedded in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Copilot Studio so items can be discovered and acted on inside those apps. Programmatic discovery of catalog metadata across workspaces is available through the Microsoft Fabric Catalog Search REST API.

Three tabs structure the product. Explore is the default: an items list with in-context details, selectors, and filters, usable alongside object explorer for multiple workspaces. Govern surfaces governance posture for owned data and recommended actions. Secure centralizes workspace roles and OneLake security roles so admins can audit permissions, view access, and create, edit, or delete roles from one place.

Embedding discovery in productivity and Copilot surfaces means catalog meaning travels with the tools people and agents already use. REST search makes that meaning available to other systems without scraping the UI. For shared semantics programs, Explore plus Govern plus Secure is a concrete split between findability, posture, and permission—three facets any cross-system model of Fabric assets must account for.
